Chinas first super computer passes tests with mind-boggling speeds

The Beijing Times reports that China's first super computer, the Shuguang 5000A passed a test run by the Institute of Computing Technology with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on April 16. The Shanghai-based computer's processing time reached 233.5 trillion times per second.

China is now the second country in the world behind the US to successfully design and manufacture a high-performance computer for commercial use. In the latest ranking of the world's supercomputers on top500.org, Shuguang 5000A is 10th, preceded by 9 US supercomputers.
