Mobile phone coverage on Mt Qomolangma to start in July

Mountain climbers can now call from the world's highest peak.

Nepal Telecom Company says that Nepal plans to have mobile phone signal on Mount Qomolangma by this July.

According to a report from Deutsche Presse Agentur, currently in Nepal there are few areas that have mobile phone signal coverage, especially in the Mt Qomoloangma area. The signal there is weak mostly because of the high altitude.

Nepal Telecom Company will set up a V-SAT station at the base camp of Mt Qomolangma so that people can make cell phone calls instead of using satellite telephones -- even at the top of Mt Qomolangma (8844.43 meters).
